While my mother was in the hospital, my aunt Cathy
came in from Queens to stay with us. My father was away at work until late eve. She was going to come over and help out with
laundry, cleaning and meals. I thought that I was old enough, but my father insisted, due to my mother accident and he did
not want us alone in the house with out adults. She was always the nervous one, but lots of fun, and soon her nerves was going
to be tested.
My brother and I met aunt Cathy at the L.I.
Railroad Station. Which was about 7 blocks away from our house. Aunt Cathy arrived on time with her 2 bags and a sack full
of groceries, which we carried for her. She was afraid that we weren't going to be home before dark, but the sun was still
out, and close to dusk. She looked happy to see us and concerned about my mother's condition in the hospital, after the accident.
She always heard stories from my father about the house and it's ghost. That got aunt Cathy nervous and thought about maybe
having to be alone with the ghost while all of us were at school and work.
It just started to get dark as we walked up to
the house from the station. I took my keys and open the door. As soon as I did, the door from the closet under the stairs
SLAMMED in the hallway. The noise startled all of us. There was no wind, so why the SLAM? Cathy got shook up the most. Clenching
onto her pocketbook, she reached inside and got out her Rosaries. Which calmed her down, a bit. I told her not to worry, that
we weren't afraid of the ghost. She said, "Yeah, you guys might not be afraid, but I'm getting pretty scared." We checked
out the closet to make sure no one was there and there wasn't.
I put her things in the downstairs bedroom, which was the guest
room, now. Then she thought it might be better to sleep on the couch in the living room upstairs and maybe closer to us, just
in case. I agreed, just to calm her nerves.
We got started with our home work and aunt Cathy started
with dinner. She went to the Supermarket before coming to Long Island and unpacked her groceries. The dog and cat made friends
with her pretty fast, of coarse, she had treats for them as well. Then all of a sudden the cat ran out of the kitchen and
the dog began to bark at the corner of the room. Cathy was puzzled but not afraid and then she felt the roaming cold spot.
"Hey guys, can you shut off the air conditioner?" My brother and I just looked at each other and replied, "We don't have a
air conditioner." We did, but it was in my parents room, it was off and we just had electric fans due to our allergies. She
came into the living room where my brother and I was and said, "No air conditioner? But it's freezing in here?" We both looked
at each other again and said, "it's not cold." She took her hands and put them on my face. "See, I'm freezing." Her hand were
as cold as ice. I put on the heat for her (in the middle of spring), so she could warm up. She went back to making supper.
Later, she called us into the dining room to eat
dinner. "Why are we eating here?" My brother asked. "Don't you eat in the dining room." "No", we replied. "Why not?", she
asked "We keep getting shocked by the chandelier.", we said. My brother started to laugh and said," it's possessed!" And started
to laugh even more. She just looked at us and said that the meal was prepared and that she already set the table, so we were
going to eat there. The meal was Lasagna Hamburger helper with Wagon wheel pasta. She's not much of a cook.
As she passed the bowl. She got close to the chandelier
and ZAP, she got hit in the face with a shot of static. "Oh my god! Is that why you don't eat in here?" We shook our heads
as we ate. She started to eat and look around and then rubbed her face where she got shocked.
We finished eating and washed up for the evening. Frankie
(my brother) and I got into our PJ's. Cathy finished putting the dishes in the dish washer, which she wasn't too familiar
with, since she didn't have one at Grandma's. She then turned on the television and started to watch. She was fascinated by
all the channels on the push button control panel. Cable was a pretty new thing at that time.
After we got done, we came downstairs and joined her for some TV before bed. Dad wasn't expected till later, around 11 p.m.
We watched "Sonny and Cher", which we always enjoyed watching. Aunt Cathy always did a good imitation of Cher, tongue and
the hair thing. After the show it was time for bed for Frankie, who went to bed under protest. I didn't have to go to bed,
until my father got home, so Cathy wouldn't feel alone. Then we heard Dad's car pull up the driveway. We greeted him at the
door and I was off to bed.
As I got into bed, I over heard them talking in the living room downstairs (below
my bedroom). She told him about the slam, as he was getting comfortable and then about the shock on her face. My father wanted
to know why the heat was on, because it was so warm. She told him that she got cold earlier. I went to sleep
