The alarm buzzed and I reached over
to turn it off. After my ritual yawning and stretching, I proceeded to go downstairs to see how Aunt Cathy got along. She
was cooking us breakfast, which for her, Pop Tarts and Cereal. I declined but thanked her for the gesture. I gave her the
excuse of not eating much in the morning, which was true.
She looked like she didn't get much sleep. Her hair was all up on
end. Severe bed head. The couch was already made up. She must have been up for a hour or so. I asked her, "Did you sleep well?".
She turned around from the toaster and gave me a look like I stuck a knife in her. "Well, I didn't get much sleep last night.
After your father went to bed, I stood up and watch some television, but could concentrate on anything, with the ghost about
the house."
"What did it do to you?" I asked concerned. She then
mellowed out and said, "well, there is foot steps that you can hear, you think there is some one walking about, but everyone
is asleep, except for me and the ghost." "Did you get cold again?" I asked. She replied, "No, but I did feel like someone
was watching me, from the Dining room. I finally went to bed around 4 a.m. Only to get woken up by the dog growling at the
corner of the room."
I shook my head and place my hand on her shoulder and said,
"You'll get used to it. He, She or It doesn't really do much, except for the noises in the night or the occasional feel on
someone sitting next side of you". Her eyes widen, "Was that what I felt? I thought I was feeling the dog next side of me,
but when I looked, no dog, no cat, no one."
Just then Frankie came down the steps with his
usual jump from the 4th step down. BOOM. "Hi!" he announced, and went to the fridge to get some milk. "Boy, Aunt Cathy, You
don't look too good." he commented as he put in his strawberry Quik into the milk, making the milk turn from white to bright
pink. She gave him a evil look, then turned to the reflection of herself in the shiny reflection of the refrigerator.
"Yeah, O.k., I'm not Rachel Welch, more like Carol Burnette, maybe after a good shower?..." We laughed and I finished up and
ran upstairs to get ahead of her in taking a shower. She can always use the first floor bathroom, which was considered my
moms.
I had just finished up and I knew Aunt Cathy must
have started her shower. The water started to get a bit cooler. I put on my robe and went into my room, I went to my closet,
then. "WHoooSH", a wind blew right by me and "SLAM", closed my door. I thought it might have been my brother, so I went out
the door and yelled "Frankie?". He replied yes from downstairs in front of the television. I said, "Nevermind", knowing not
to ask if he's been up here. I turned around to go into my room and right before I got to it. SLAM, my door slammed closed.
I reached for the door knob and couldn't get it to open. I went down to get a knife to open the door. My brother said,
"Dad is not gunna like you slamming the doors like that." I just sighed in disbelief and got the knife and stuck it into the
door knob and poof, it was open. I got dress in a hurry because I was late. Frankie was now in the shower and I grabbed my
books and kissed my aunt good-bye and I was off to school.
Frankie finally finished as well and slowly trudged his way
to school. My father woke up and Cathy was putting away the morning meal. She asked my father if he wanted something to eat
and replied, "Nope, just Instant Breakfast (Carnation) for me." He got his milk and his vitamins and swallowed it all down,
in what seems to be one gulp. " You don't look too good...?" he replied to her. She again gave that evil look and preceded
to tell him about the evening. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "You'll get used to it." "Like father, like son." she exclaimed.
Then preceded to vacuum the Living Room rug.
He finally got showered and dressed, packed his lunch
and now he was off to work. Aunt Cathy was now alone in the house, for the first time. She turned on every light and every
radio, putting on the "Oldies" station on. She went downstairs into the basement to do some laundry and hear a door open and
close. She ran upstairs and no one there. Hmmmmm, she thought, maybe the kids forget something and ran in and out.
She finally got in one load of laundry in, went
"SLAMM". The door from the basement slammed and then she heard footsteps. She looked around for some kind of weapon. Only
to find a plunger, under the sink. She walked slowly up the stairs and "Whoooosh" a wind blew by her as she open the basement
door, she dropped the plunger, which boinged and bounced down the steps. She was startled and very confused, she ran into
the kitchen and began to panic.
She had calmed down after a couple of minutes. The song
"Lollipop's" was Duwhoping on the radio and she thought it was all her imagination getting the best of her. She gave a nervous
chuckle and went back to vacuuming the Dining room, being careful not to come too close to the Chandelier.
When all of a sudden, Bamm, all the lights and music
was shut off. She must have blown a fuse or the circuit breaker. Now what, she thought. She remembered she saw a flashlight
in the kitchen draw and remembered that the circuit breaker was down in the basement. SHOOT, she thought, as her mind went
to look for protection, remember the plunger was downstairs.
She open the door down into the basement, flash light
in hand and went to go find the circuit breaker. She found it and flicked on a switch, which everything went on all of a sudden
which startled again. She approached the steps to go upstairs and then "BUZZZZZZZZ" The laundry was done. By now she was it
her limits. She picked up the laundry basket and went to the machine went all of a sudden she felt a hand on her shoulder.
Turning around hoping to see my father, Frankie or me, she saw no one. She dropped the basket and started to cry. Just then
a rumble started up from the boiler room, she has had it, she went for the phone and quickly dialed one of the neighbors,
which we gave her, just in case, she had a emergency, and for her, this was a emergency. She got Danny from up the block and
he came over within 5 minutes.
She was well shaken up when she opened the door. "Hear it,
it's rumbling." Danny agreed and went downstairs. She didn't follow him. Then boom, the rumbling stopped. Danny came upstairs
and said, "The boiler had no more oil in it and it seems like someone put on the heat. It rumbles like that." He told her
that he turned off the boiler and for her to call the oil company. She exclaimed, "NO WAY, I'm on my way out, can you give
me a lift to the railroad station. He said he would and she was packed in 4 minutes flat. She scribbled a note.
Dear Frank, John and little Frankie, Sorry, but I can't stay here any more. Your house doesn't
like me and I don't like it either, please forgive me. I know your mom will be here today, but I can't wait for her. Danny
from up the block is taking me to the station. Call me, when someone gets in. Love, Aunt Cathy
She shut off everything, locked the door and ran to Danny's
car, which was waiting for her out front. Danny tried to calm her down, saying he knew about some of the things that went
on in our house. She just stared out the window, like a puppy waiting for it's owner. As soon as they pulled into the station
a train was pulling up. She thanked him, slammed the car door shut, ran to the train and got on as fast as she can.
