The Preacher's Wives

As the story was told to me. The Preacher of Bruton Parish was a very carismatic man. His wife was deathly ill, and at death's door. He pledge that he would hold her dear to his heart forever. Well, forever was less than a year after her death. Married for the second time, to a beautiful, weathly woman, who owned the land right next door to the church. Which was scandalous during Colonial Times. He then put his first wife's grave 6 feet away from his plot, when he and his second wife passed, they were burried in the same plot, next side of each other (one right in front of each other). It's said that the original wife haunts the gravestones on her jilted husband's effection for another. Wish her grave was next to his, for there is another woman's grave there, that should be her's.

Stories of a mystery vault from the 1700's.

Vault is located near one of the corner stones of this historical landmark church.

Many other hauntings and strange occurances associated with Bruton Parish.....
  • Mathew Whaley- Born 1696 died at the age of Nine years old. Burried with his Father and his mother James and Mary.  The funds of the school was delayed more than 100 years after the death of his mother, which we think triggered the haunting. Appearing at his grave and the school that bears the name of Mathew Whaley.  A free school to those who could not afford private schooling.

  • The New Ager's Revenge- In 1991, there was a plot to recover secret documents buried at a tomb of Sir Francis Bacon. The documents were to have told of the date of the second coming of Christ.  Although never caught, they left a gapping hole in the tomb, trying to find the holy documents. I'm sure Sir Francis scared them away, because no-one was found. There has been reports of two men who looked suspictious in the area, right before the digging in the night. They think it was Marsh Middleton, her husband, Frank Flint and Doug Moore was to blame.
