The first Governor's Palace was a victim to fire. The Second was built on scale and on the same foundation of the original.

Waiting Parlor, Ballroom, Maze Garden, Cooler Mound and it's haunted Basement, spirits abound.

The Governor's Palace/Manor is one of Williamsburg oldest structure. The original was caught in fire, and painstaking reconstruction was done to make it exactly like the first. The Basement has it's original foundation, where this structure was built from original blueprints and photos/paintings.

The Govenor's Coat of Arms.

Surrounded by muskets from the 17th century.

Upon entering the Palace/Mansion, it looks bigger from inside than from the outside. Covered in hand carved paneling,in the doorway, the dark wood creaks below your feet.  To the right stands a Waiting Parlor. My Gauss meter went off, reading about a .8 milligauss to off the scale. Although roped off, I shot this picture. It looked normal at first glance. Upon further inspection, I notice a odd face in the mirror. The reflection looks like you could see through it. It floats on a bodiless form.

Face in 18th century hairstyle & collar.

He looks like John Wilks Booth, who died in a barn, not too far from Williamsburg.

I couldn't believe my eyes. You could see through him, the structure of the molding that should be the reflection is barely visible.

The Ballroom
fireplace_web.jpg
Site of many of festive dances and countless social events.

The Ballroom
The social event of everyperson who was to be in the "Who's who" of Williamsburg. Said to have the honors of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,  amoungst the few.  This ballroom is very active with EMF's, surrounding the fireplace mostly. The fireplace was the scene to warm yourself while waiting a dance. It was the place where people social life was at it's most delicate. Rumors, scandals and plots were done at this spot. EMF readings of .9 milligauss, where moving in a circular motion. Seemingly trying to get their turn at warming the occasional ghostly hand or bottom. It was wierd!

Even these paintings had a EMF reading of .6 milligauss. No security attachments were on these paintings, so there was no reason for it's wierd EMF readings. The picture, I think, is of King George, the one who went mad. The Lady, I don't know who she is, but she is beautiful in her Colonial Ballgown.

The Maze Garden in the back of Palace.
maze_web.jpg
The site was under construction. The last Hurricane that came through distroyed original shrubs.

The Maze Garden
Countless ghost stories were told about this location. Stories of Red Coat Guards with muskets in hand, chasing after people who innocently took a early evening walk through it's maze. Now, closed off to the public and is part of the paid tour of the Palace. I remember, walking through it, before we had to pay to walk through it now. My heart did race, as I would see shadows pass by it's leafy shrubs.

Now under construction, and with meter in hand, it had no EMF's, nothing unusual about it, except for the shortness of the shrubs. I'll have to return when the shrubs gets to it's full height. I was dissappointed, because of the stories I've heard about it's ghosts, maybe they left when the original plants were distroyed.

The Mound Cooler
moundcooler_web.jpg
The colonial way to keep things cool. Make a mound and make a room at the bottom of mound.

The Mound
This was a very unusual spot. It was a room in a mound of dirt. Meant to keep it's goods cool during the Summer Days. Dark and puzzling, the mound would have EMF readings of about .5 to .6 milligauss. It had one light bulb in the center of the room. The gate was locked, but the EMF was standing in front of the gate. I heard a shuffling inside it's dark caverness hole, but something kept me from seeing what's inside. Like a dark shadow, that block the light that entered into it's depths. It gave me the creeps! I wish it was open, so I could have entered into it. My body told me to run, but my curious mind told me to find out what's in there. Hmmm, maybe next time I'm in town.

The basement Wine Cellar.
basement_web.jpg
Although lit, the picture didn't show up well.

The Basement
The basement of the Governor's Palace was the original bricks to the first construction. EMF would be at it's corners, where exposed bricks would show the patron the original foundation. The reading of .6 to off the charts were in every corner. We also got an unusual EMF reading in front of the Wine Cellar room. Dimmly lit, not shown in the pictures, barrels of wine were stored for it's next party to take place. Straw covered the floors and you could peer inside as you walked by it's door.
